MAZDA’s safety philosophy is based on understanding, respecting, and trusting the driver. To drive safely you need to be able to spot potential hazards and use your best judgment to react accordingly. We also understand that you are only human and that accidents can happen, despite best intentions, so we have a range of technologies that help to prevent mishaps or reduce the damage done. We call our vision MAZDA PROACTIVE SAFETY.

 

BASIC SAFETY

MAZDA trusts drivers.  By paying attention to every detail of the driving experience we can ensure that you are involved, entertained, and uplifted by driving a MAZDA, and fully focused on the road.  As an example, the driving position is configured to keep your joints at a natural angle, making you more comfortable on long journeys and enabling you to be more agile in an emergency.  MAZDA uses an organ-pedal style of accelerator that is designed to reduce fatigue, and the MAZDA instrument panels are designed to provide clear, easy-to-read information without having to divert your eyes from the road.

PREVENTIVE SAFETY

MAZDA vehicles are equipped with a wide array of driver aids and safety features to help avoid accidents. Examples include Adaptive LED Headlights, Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, 360-Degree View Monitor, Smart Brake Support, Radar Cruise Control, and Driver Monitoring.

COLLISION SAFETY

The Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture that underpins our cars has been designed to absorb energy, reducing the risk of injury, and our Emergency Call System can automatically call for help.

MAZDA SAFETY SOLUTIONS

YOUR MAZDA CO-PILOT

(currently under development for Japanese models only) Becoming ill at the wheel is a frightening prospect. The MAZDA CO-PILOT system monitors the driver for just such an eventuality.

HOW IT WORKS

An on-board driver-monitoring camera assesses the driver’s condition. If you become unfit to drive, MAZDA CO-PILOT system alerts other drivers, etc., makes your car slow down and stop, and calls emergency services. *This movie is taken with a vehicle of technology development specification

EVERYDAY SAFETY

Every time you drive your MAZDA you can be confident it will respond intuitively to your command. Settled into a driving position designed for ideal visibility and long-distance comfort, you are in control, with the reassurance that MAZDA’s safety features are there if you need help.

HOW IT WORKS:DRIVING POSITION

MAZDA engineers studied the human body to design the perfect driving position. In a MAZDA you’re seated so that your muscles are relaxed but ready to react and positioned so that your line of sight gives you a good view of the road ahead.

G-VECTORING CONTROL

By subtly controlling engine torque as you turn into a corner, a small forward weight transfer occurs, allowing the tire to give its optimal performance. The car responds intuitively to the first steering input and negotiates the corner smoothly without corrections, making the driver and passengers feel safe.

CRASH PROTECTION

SOMETIMES ACCIDENTS ARE UNAVOIDABLE. THAT’S WHERE MAZDA’S INDUSTRY-LEADING CRASH PROTECTION COMES INTO ITS OWN TO HELP KEEP YOU SAFE.

SKYACTIV-VEHICLE ARCHITECTURE

MAZDA cars are strong and lightweight. By using materials such as high tensile steel in areas of the body structure, engineers ensure that the car absorbs impact energy without adding extra weight.

MULTIPLE SRS* AIRBAGS

Airbags have long been a crucial part of crash protection. MAZDA uses driver and passenger airbags, plus multiple airbags to protect all occupants. *Supplemental Restraint System

EXTRA EYES ON THE ROAD

MAZDA vehicles are designed for all-round visibility, and also come equipped with a number of ingenious electronic systems, such as a 360-Degree View Monitor, to help drivers see clearly.

SMART BRAKE SUPPORT

MAZDA’s Smart Brake Support uses a front camera and milliwave radar. If the system detects an imminent crash, it will ready the brakes to apply maximum stopping power. If the driver doesn’t react, it automatically hits the brakes and reduces engine power to reduce the impact.

ACCELERATION CONTROL

For cars fitted with automatic transmissions, MAZDA’s Acceleration Control system uses a camera and sonar sensors to detect obstacles, and prevents the driver from accidentally accelerating into them from a standstill.

AWARD-WINNING PROTECTION

US

All tested US MAZDA vehicles*1 received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2022 TOP SAFETY PICK+, the highest award in safety. *1: 2022 MAZDA CX-5, CX-9, MAZDA3 Sedan and Hatchback, and CX-30 have all been named a 2022 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+. *2: European specification. *3: Japanese specification
